Scholastic Art Awards 2026
The online portal for the Scholastic Art Awards for Southwest Virginia is open. The deadline for teen artists to apply in our region is Wednesday, December 17 at 11:59 p.m. This deadline is firm and there are NO EXCEPTIONS. Teen artists and their teachers can log in at https://www.artandwriting.org/.

Southwest Virginia Art Awards announced the week of January 6.
Art will be delivered or picked up, by arrangement, the week of January 12.
The Reception (noon) at the Fine Arts Center, and the Awards Ceremony (2 p.m.) held at the historic Pulaski Theatre is on Saturday, February 21.

Five Southwest Virginia Artists Honored in 2025 National Awards
We are pleased to announce that five teen artists from Southwest Virginia were honored with Gold or Silver Keys in the national adjudication of the Scholastic Art Awards. One student, Aliyah (Yammy) Williams, from the Burton Center for Arts & Tech in Salem, is also a winner of an American Visions Medal, Scholastic’s highest honor. The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley is proud to be the regional host for the National Scholastic Art Awards - the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens.
Please enjoy this online exhibit of the winners from the 2025 Scholastic Art Awards for Southwest Virginia. The region encompasses 23 counties and the independent towns and cities in Southwest Virginia. This year, almost 500 entries were submitted across 16 categories.

2025 American Visions Nominees and Scholarship Winners
Each year, the judge’s select the top five high school entries across all categories as the American Visions nominees from Southwest Virginia. These five works compete at the national level for an American Visions Awards. In addition the judges selected two pieces for the Outstanding Middle School Entry. Beginning in 2023, the artists of all of these top works receive a $250 scholarship from the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley.
