Whether you're brand new to photography, dusting off a camera that's been sitting on the shelf, or looking to strengthen your existing skills, this workshop offers a welcoming and practical introduction to creating stronger images.
Join photographer Robert Simmons for an engaging exploration of the creative side of photography. Rather than focusing heavily on technical specifications, this class will emphasize the artistic and visual decisions that help transform an ordinary snapshot into a compelling photograph.
Participants will explore topics such as:
Understanding composition and visual balance
Using light effectively to enhance a photograph
Choosing angles and perspectives that strengthen an image
Framing subjects for greater impact
Identifying interesting compositions and visual storytelling opportunities
Making creative decisions that draw attention to the subject
Discussion of photographs as finished works, including considerations related to displaying and printing images
This class is designed to be accessible to beginners while still offering valuable insights for photographers with some experience. Students will have opportunities to examine examples, discuss photographic choices, and gain a deeper understanding of what makes an image memorable and effective.
Requirements
Participants should already own and be familiar with the basic operation of a camera. A DSLR, mirrorless camera, bridge camera, or other dedicated digital camera is recommended.
Students are strongly encouraged to bring their camera to class. Having your camera available will allow you to follow along with discussions, explore settings, and connect the concepts being presented to your own equipment.
