Three-Dimensional Collages

Not all art has to be a painting. Creating collages that combine different materials and techniques can be a fun way to expand a young artist’s repertoire. But even well-known artists have created collages.

As you can see from this first image by a middle school student, you can use a variety of papers and utensils to create your collage. Even scrap pieces of paper can add variety of color and texture and make a collage more interesting. Notice how this artist also used a variety of pencils, colors, and crayons but still created strawberries we can recognize and enjoy.

In the other two images, elementary students created art around the theme of kindness. They traced their arms and cut them out then consider what kind of objects they’d like to share with others in light of the theme. Raising the hands off of the paper and filling them with a variety of colorful objects, including three-dimensional spirals, truly embodies the kindness theme.

If you’ve found these three-dimensional collages, you’re at the Fine Arts Center. The street number to enter on your game board is 21 in any block where you see 3D.
