Second Saturday Workshop: Watercolor Batik Class (September 11 @ 2:00 p.m.)

Batik is both an art and a craft, which is becoming ever more popular and well known among contemporary artists all over the world, as a wonderfully creative medium. The art of decorating cloth using wax and dye, has been practiced for centuries in many parts of the world including China, Japan, India, South America and Europe. (What is Batik, 2011-2021)

Batik wax resist techniques are also used with paper, ceramics and metals. In this class you will investigate Batik wax resist painting techniques using watercolor on rice paper. Charlotte Chan will provide background and demonstrate techniques.

Fee: $20

Supplies:

Please bring the following supplies to the workshop:

  • Watercolors and brushes (your preference)

  • Water container

  • Rice paper

  • Permanent fine tip pen

  • Paper towels

  • Sturdy board to mount rice paper painting (foam board or mat board)

  • A pencil drawing of the design you would like to use (8X10)

  • Good attitude for a fun painting day!

  • Iron

  • Newspapers

  • Wax

  • Spray adhesive

About the Artist:
Charlotte is a local artist, living in Blacksburg VA. She is a member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and serves as the Blacksburg Regional Art Association President.
