Sunflowers - A symbol of “Gratitude” for Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh was one of many artists who painted in the style known as “post-impressionism.” He painted his famous sunflower paintings in 1887-1888 in Paris while staying with his brother, Theo.
Our August Second Saturday Art Cafe’ kit invites the young artist to enjoy creating bright and colorful sunflowers using oil pastels (really fancy crayons!) and a process called collage. Art by van Gogh (like his field of flowers or the vase holding flower) might be a source of inspiration, or your child could simply use a few easy “how to draw” examples for making her or his own design.
Here’s a fun video tutorial on how to draw a sunflower if you wish to get a jump on the August 14 kit distribution!
