Two Great FREE Concerts in May at the Fine Arts Center!

VCA-Touring Artist Andrew McKnight will be in the First Friday Listening Room on May 3 and Joey Harrington will perform some of his original compositions on piano on May 16.

Andrew McKnight
Friday, May 3

Andrew McKnight is an award-winning musician and storyteller from Lincoln, VA, and is brought to us, in part, through a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Andrew's solo performances are powerful and entertaining one-man theatre, delivered with warmth and down-home comfort. He weaves his finely-crafted songs and nimble flatpicking together with humorous stories and poetic drama, while the musical soundscape traverses influences from Appalachia, spooky slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, and rustic folk.

The doors open at 5 p.m. with light refreshments and a cash bar. The music runs from 6-8 p.m. The concert is free but a $5 donation is suggested for those who can.

Joey Morgan Harrington
Thursday, May 16

Joey Harrington will soon be graduating with his Masters of Music from Radford University, so we’re lucky we caught him while he was still in the area! Joey’s original concert music consists of compositions for small chamber groups, solo piano, and modular synthesis using a variety of influences spanning the classical, jazz, and experimental music worlds. In addition, he enjoys collaborating with visual artists who often produce live visuals in his shows. His concerts provide a space for audiences to be fully immersed in a variety of sounds and visuals, creating an unforgettable experience.

Joey will perform from 6-7 p.m. which should give concertgoers the opportunity to visit one of the local eateries following the concert. The concert is free but a $5 donation is suggested for those who can.
