History:

The Fine Arts Center for the NewRiver Valley was created out of a need to augment the arts education offered in the school system and to the residents of the New River Valley. In its first twenty-five years of operation, the Fine Arts Center touched the lives of approximately 370,000 patrons by the way of visits to the gallery, classes, performances, and special events. The Center has hosted a combination of 3,500 classes or programs (visual and performing arts) involving 10,000 artists.
The Center was initially located in the Fairview Home, incorporated in 1978 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in Pulaski, Virginia. A 1928 Alms House, it is located across from Pulaski County High School.
In 1982 the Center moved to its present location the former Cato's, a women's clothing store. Considered a prime example of Victorian commercial architecture, the two-story brick building was built in 1898 and is part of the Downtown Historic Landmark District. This honor was designated by the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission.
