Southwest Virginia Scholastic Art Awards

This is the 100th year of the Scholastic Awards! The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers sponsors the awards for young artists aged 13 and up in grades 7-12. Student artists receive an opportunity to exhibit locally at the Fine Arts Center, with gold medal winners moving to the national competition. At the national level students compete for more than $37,000 in scholarships along with awards and the opportunity to exhibit in New York and other regional exhibits. For the first year, the Fine Arts Center will also be offering scholarship awards to the American Visions nominees from Southwest Virginia along with one outstanding middle school artist.

Menagerie is one of the Fine Arts Center’s most popular exhibits as it features a variety of art created by many different artists from across the New River Valley.

Menagerie is open to all artists of the New River Valley who are 18 years or older with original, hand-crafted works created in the past two years.

Show Dates for the Menagerie Exhibit are Thursday, August 25 through Saturday, October 8, with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on August 25. Come enjoy the talented work from more than two dozen local artists working in a variety of media.
